Meridian, Edge, and Photon V2 Pro Setup Guide
Note: Video shows newer Meridian and Meridian edges. Photons connect in a similar way to the Meridians, but must be added as a Photon, not a Meridian.
Initial Setup:
- Power Connection: First, attach the power supply to your light, then plug it into a wall outlet.
- Light Initialization: The light will cycle through colors, and the fans will activate. The indicator LED will display multiple colors before settling on flashing blue.
- App Setup: Ensure you've downloaded the ReefBreeders app, created an account, and logged in. Download Link
- Create a Tank: Create your first tank in the app. Name your tank, select salt or freshwater, and set your timezone. Additionally, you may choose to share your location to access real time weather data for daily moon cycles (recommended).
-
Adding Device in App: In the app, tap on "+ Add New Device", select "Photon". Under Photon, there are 2 options:
- Photon (Flat Button - Pre 2025): This is for older app boards, not the light its self. If you have an older app board, use this option. The "flat button" is a flat, gold and silver color button inside the access port for the reset button.
- Photon (Right angle Button- 2025 and newer): This is for new app boards, and does NOT apply to the age of your light. If your reset button is black with a silver background, and is visible inside the reset button port- then you've got a right angle button and newer board.
- If you choose the WRONG type, you will get a YELLOW popup message saying connected device and device type do not match. That means you chose the wrong option. Simple go back and choose the correct app board.
- Once you have selected the correct device type, tap on ready.
-
WiFi Connection:
iPhone: Once you see an option to "Check Connection" Exit the app, go to your phone's WiFi settings, connect to "ReefBreeders-Light_XXXXXX" (The Xs will be 6 unique characters). Once connected with a solid blue indicator light, return to the ReefBreeders app.
Android: After tapping on "+ Add New Device" you will be prompted to allow access to wifi. Tap on "Continue", then "Ready" and the app will display a "ReefBreeders-Light_XXXXXX" network (The Xs will be 6 unique characters). Connect to that network, and wait for your lights indicator to turn solid blue. If no light networks are present, tap on "Rescan". - Network Setup: In the app, select your 2.4GHz WiFi network, enter the password (case-sensitive, check for special characters), then tap on "Connect".
- Finalizing Connection: Once connected, the LED will turn solid green. Name your light in the app and adjust the color sliders to test responsiveness.
Troubleshooting Tips:
- Light Stuck on Solid Blue: If the light is solid blue, disconnect it from your phone's WiFi settings by choosing "forget this network." Then, restart the ReefBreeders app and follow the connection steps.
- Indicator LED flashes green or blue fast but doesn't go solid green: Press the reset button 8x in a row. The light will go full power on all channels. Press the reset button again to exit this mode and perform a soft reset. After the light cycles, it should move to solid green.
- Internet Connection Issues: Ensure connection to a 2.4GHz network. Reset your router and light by unplugging for 30 seconds. Verify the network password.
- Remote Control: After installing the ReefBreeders app kit, the old remote control will no longer work. Control the light using the smartphone app.
- Reset Button: Located inside the endcap. Use the included key or a flat head screwdriver to press it gently. Older versions have a gold button at the top of the reset slot, and newer versions have a black right angle button directly inside the reset button slot.
Requirements and Notes:
- Smartphone with Android or iOS is necessary.
- A 2.4GHz WiFi network with internet access is required. For 5GHz only networks, adjust router settings or contact ISP.
- In remote areas or at tradeshows, a mobile hotspot can be used for setup.
- The light automatically reconnects to WiFi after updates or resets.
